about renting a car. You might assume that one rental company is as

I've found myself in some pretty ugly situations by assuming I could just
stroll up to the counter at the airport and rent a car. On many occasions
what should have been a quick twenty minute rental took almost an hour.
One of the most common problems is the rental agencies not accepting
the type of credit card you have. We've called ahead and checked to see
if our card was accepted, only to be turned down at the counter.
1. Check to see if your car can be booked " BEFORE " you leave on your
trip. Make sure you have a confirmation number with you, when you go to
pick up your car.
2. Many car rental agencies don't accept debit cards, even though you
have a Visa or other name brand logo on the front. Be sure you check
before you leave on your trip. Make your reservation " BEFORE " you
leave.
3. Remember that most car rental agencies take an extra damage deposit
out of your card account. I've seen amounts as high as $600.00 taken out
of my debit account. That's a big problem if you're traveling on a budget
and don't expect it ! Ask ahead of time about any damage deposits the
rental agency requires " BEFORE " You leave on your trip.
4. Don't forget that you are responsible for filling up your rental car's gas
tank before you return it. This means you may have to add an additional
$60.00 to your vacation gas budget.
5. Be sure to ask when your car is due back at the rental agency. It's
important to be at the airport at least 2 hours early to ensure you make
you flight. Remember to add an additional 30 minutes so you can return
your car on time and avoid any extra fees.
